Our Story

From Our Homestead
to Your Kitchen

We grow, culture, craft & cure — then pack it all in beautiful glass for your home.

How It All Started

It began with a single jar of milk kefir on a kitchen counter in Nairobi. What started as a curiosity about fermentation quickly grew into a passion — for live cultures, for working with our hands, and for the beautiful simplicity of glass over plastic.

We started sharing our kefir grains with friends, then kombucha SCOBYs, then sourdough starters. Before long, people were asking for the jars too — the clip-top mason jars we used for everything from kimchi to overnight oats.

When the first batches of goat-milk soap came out of our kitchen, we knew this was more than a hobby. Achieng's Homestead was born: a small, intentional business rooted in sustainable living and the belief that the best things are made slowly, by hand, with love.

Why Glass Jars?

🧪

Chemical-Free

Glass is non-reactive. No BPA, no microplastics leaching into your food — just pure, clean storage.

🌍

Planet-Friendly

Glass is 100% recyclable and infinitely reusable. One jar replaces hundreds of plastic containers.

🫙

Fermentation-Perfect

Glass lets you see your cultures working. It's airtight when you need it and easy to sterilise between batches.
